Welcome to Mining Share Tips Australia, a blog to provide you with my tips and advice on Mining and Explorers in the Australian Stock Market.
My disclaimer first. I am not an authorised financial advisor or stockbroker. I am merely a watcher, investor and sometime trader of the speculative end of the Australian market. Before making any decision to invest, please do your own research.
I have been investing in the Australian market for a number of years. My main focus has been the speculative end of the market, notably mining and explorer stocks. I have at times moved into other speculative fields, like biotech, but during a mining boom i have found that the most consistent gains have been from mining companies.
Be aware, that investing in the speculative end of the market can have great rewards (sometimes amazing rewards) but it can also be risky. However, as we saw with the Global Financial Crisis, investments in semi blue chip companies like Babcock and Brown, Centro Properties and Allco Finance also come with risk.
Investing is about making smart decisions. While that might seem an obvious statement, we see all too often people who make decisions based on poor or little research. That's not smart and unfortunately, these are the people who are at risk of losing the lot.
As i said, there are great rewards to be had by investing in the spec end of the market. But its about making the right decisions, knowing what to buy, when to buy it and when to sell. I hope to be able to provide you with at least some of that information.
An acronym that i will repeat often is DYOR - do your own research. It cant be said often enough. The amount of information out there is staggering. From annual reports, to mining results, to quarterly reports and substantial holder changes. They all must be read before you invest. All of it is available either from the company websites, or from the ASX or your online broker website.
Also have a look at the business section in The Australian. They have their own mining section online and give some great insights into the speculative end of the market.
I hope to update this site a few times a week. I will be talking about various companies and providing a brief analysis of their operations and whether i think they are a good buy or not.
As time goes on and as circumstances change, many of the companies discussed will have newer posts. Do a search to make sure you are reading the latest commentary about that company.
In the meantime, happy investing and remember to DYOR!
